Take laser treatments, for example. Several different types of laser are now being used in clinics worldwide. But how are you to know which one is best for your condition?

Before deciding on a particular anti-aging treatment laser treatment, you'll need to familiarize yourself with its pros and cons. After all, there are a lot of cosmetic lasers on the market today, and they all have differing capabilities. To help you understand the pros and cons of each, we've discussed the most popular types of procedure below.

Fraxel Laser Treatment
Fraxel, otherwise known as fractional photothermolysis, is a modern laser, designed to treat acne scars, stretch marks, and fine lines and wrinkles. It's a simple, yet often life-changing procedure, that works by inflicting the skin with microscopic injuries.

These small puncture wounds encourage the body to produce more collagen in order to heal the skin. This collagen, however, not only helps repair the damage done by the laser, it also improves the overall texture of the skin.

Fraxel is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments around at the moment. The number of people undergoing it still continues to grow, which suggests this procedure is only going to become more and more popular as the years go by.

Ablative Laser Treatment
If your skin isn't in the best shape, appearance wise, you'll likely be encouraged by your dermatologist to opt for an ablative laser treatment. These lasers are renowned for their power and precision, and target each layer of the skin causing it to heal at the deepest level.

Ablative lasers are extremely effective, but aren't without their drawbacks. Unfortunately, treatment can be somewhat painful. Side effects such as oozing and bleeding aren't all that uncommon either, as the laser penetrates the skin at multiple levels. While this might sound a little frightening, it's nothing to be worried about. If you follow aftercare instructions properly, your risk of infection post-treatment is minimal.

Non-Ablative Laser Treatment
A non-ablative laser is fairly similar to an ablative one, only it only targets the deepest layers of the skin, rather than the entirety of it. This means non-ablative lasers come with a distinct advantage: low risk of post-treatment infection.

You may be wondering as you read this, why undergo a procedure that only targets the deeper layers of the skin? Well, that's a good question. Because of the way they work, non-ablative lasers are only recommended for minor skin complaints. These include fine lines and shallow wrinkles.
If you're considering laser treatment for your skin condition, it's important you realize that non-ablative lasers aren't powerful enough to treat more severe imperfections such as deep wrinkles and scars. Suffering from either of those things? Opt for a different laser!
